HEARING PROTECTION ACTION LEVELS
In the workplace, there are 2 main action levels when hearing protection should
or must be worn.
ACTION LEVEL NOISE EXPOSURE RECOMMENDED ACTION BY EMPLOYER 87dB
LEVEL
Lower or first Provide training and make hearing
level At 80dB protection available There is a requirement that no
worker should be exposed to 87dB
Seek to reduce the level of noise at or above, even when hearing
85dB and source. Provide training and enforce protection is worn.
Upper level
above the mandatory wearing of appropriate
hearing protection.
