WHAT IS WEL AND APF? WHAT DO THE OTHER
MARKINGS MEAN?
Workplace Exposure Limits (WELs) are concentrations of
hazardous substances in the air, averaged over a specified
period of time, referred to as a time-weighted average NR = Non Reusable (single shift)
(TWA). If the workplace environment is above the WEL, RPE
can be considered as appropriate level of protection. R = Reusable (can be used for more
than 1 shift of 8 hours)
APF is the Assigned Protection Factor (APF) allocated
to each type and class of RPE. The APF number rating D = Meets the requirements of the
